Alex Weir (aka Smex) is an artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. His practice explores ideas of community, connection and identity through painting, printmaking, drawing and bookmaking.

 

Smex is particularly inspired by the mundane and the everyday, consistently reacting to current events and situations, both personal and on a wider scale, to create playful imagery and storytelling.

 

His work embodies a tongue-in-cheek humour that simultaneously pokes fun at and celebrates struggles, routines and ideals of everyday life, with mediums combined to create engaging and accessible interactive installations and projects.
